Horses - AFFIRMED

In the crazy world of horse racing the one thing we had yet to see going into the 1978 horse racing year was back to back triple crown winners.  That was about to all change because of a horse by the name of Affirmed.

By Visindar - I took the photograph myself

Not only had there never been back to back triple crown winners but no horse ever had to beat the same rival in all three legs of the triple crown.  So 1978 was indeed special all the way around.  Because during this amazing year Affirmed and Alydar gave racing fans all over the world the thrill of a lifetime.  By the time the last leg of the triple crown at Belmont was run, Affirmed was a triple crown winner but it was Alydar that got everyone's sympathy and was the hero of the year.

The truth is, the Affirmed - Alydar rivalry started long before they ever got to the Kentucky Derby, the first leg of the crown.  On June 15, 1977, was when it all started at Belmont Park.  The two horses were running in the Youthful Stakes.  It was Alydar's first race and Affirmed's second.  Affirmed won the race while Alydar finished a disappointing fourth.  In was the only time in ten meetings between these two horses that they both didn't finish first or second.

Affirmed came into the world on February 21, 1975.  He was born at Harbor View Farm in Florida.  The owner, Louis Wolfson, had sent other horses out to race in his career but never with the success that was about to come with Affirmed.

Affirmed made his maiden race on May 24, 1977, at Belmont Park.  He won the race by an easy 4 and 1/2 lengths.  Three weeks later was when he won the Youthful with Alydar coming in fourth.  But after that race, Affirmed and Alydar ran every race almost neck and neck in one of the greatest rivalries of all time.

On July 6 at the Great American Stakes, Alydar finally got the better of Affirmed and beat him winning by 3 and 1/2 lengths.  This didn't discourage trainer Lazaro Barrera who then immediately shipped Affirmed out to Hollywood Park where he won the Hollywood Juvenile Championship on July 23.  This was the first of four straight victories for Affirmed.

There were other races afterwards, with Affirmed and Alydar trading victories.  This set up the first leg of the triple crown, the Kentucky Derby.  Ironically, this turned out to be the least exciting race of the three with Affirmed taking a commanding lead.  At the end, Alydar could only close the gap to 1 1/2 lengths though he gave it a valiant effort.

It was a different story two weeks later at the Preakness where the two horses were engaged in an epic duel.  Affirmed again took an early lead but this time Alydar made it a race with Affirmed winning only by a neck.

But as good as the Preakness was, the Belmont Stakes will go down in history as being one of the most exciting races in history.  For almost the entire race in a five horse field, Affirmed and Alydar were running neck and neck.  It was like out of a movie.  Finally though it was Affirmed who won the race by a head.

This was indeed one of the greatest horse rivalries in racing history, one which may never be duplicated.

The FAMILY TREE: Primer of Genealogy

Who’s who is the most common query when relatives get together. Each and everyone start to identify the connection of every individual in the so-called family circle. A family tree serves as a guide for an individual to distinguish the family connection between persons.

To show the relationship among relatives, there are important factors that should be incorporated in your family tree:

?    Name of the person
?    Date of birth
?    Other pertinent information such as the physical address and employment

You will have to distinguish the relationship through:

1.    Marriage
2.    Extra-marital Unions
3.    Progeniture

If it involves your own family, a family tree is a trouble-free task. However, if it involves identifying your ancestors, you will need to devote some time in order for you to be familiar with your roots.

An understanding of the family structure is needed so that you will properly determine your roots to come up with a well-developed family tree.

It is with a mated pair where a family has begun. However, according to genealogy studies there are two main bases for the emergence of complication in a family structure.

The first main source of complication in the family structure is whenever a man takes more than one spouse. Such identification of family tree may become arduous with this case since there are many lineages to trace.

An extended family is considered as a source of complexity concerning family structure. On a positive note, it is helpful in genealogy. With a close-knit family, you will have higher chances to easily complete a family tree.

Once you have found out what type of family structure you have, then it is time to undertake your task – begin your quest to come up with a well-researched family tree.

Start with the basic. Start with your own family. It is from older family members that you can obtain relevant information about your roots. They can give you a lead on where to move next.

Every encounter with any relatives should be documented.  Journal, tape recorders, cameras or video cams are handy. All relevant information should be entered in your family tree chart or can be filled out in a genealogical form. These days, there is no need for you to sketch your own family tree since there are several family tree charts and forms available in the market.

On your family tree journey, there are a lot of surnames that will come up. With this regard, it is best to choose what surname to find lineage first. By being surname-focused, you are most likely to finish your task faster and easier. After you have exhausted all information with a surname and you think that the lineage is complete, then you can now move on to another surname.

Interviewing family members may sometimes be insufficient. There are other sources which you can track your relatives such as the internet, Family History Center in your locality, documents (which includes birth, marriage and death certificates), and places such as a church, cemetery or even a court house.

Establishing a family tree is an important undertaking for you to be able to know your roots and identify your own identity.

7 Timeless GARDEN DECOR Practices

Are you looking for a way to add to your garden dcor? Want something everlasting, nature-based or stylized? There are many things that you can add to your outdoor living space to make it comfortable and inviting and still provide you with few hours of work on maintenance. Here are 7 ways to add dcor to your garden.

Tip 1: unadulterated Is Best. When adding products outdoors, from furniture to statuary, you should always look towards the most organic of products. When you do this, youll allow for something that fits within the landscape, not something that sticks out in it.

Tip 2: Flow Is Essential. If you have a large garden or landscape, you can create a flow throughout it to make it a much more livable and organic environment. For example, a pathway leading through the garden is important as it provides for a way to move through the area enjoying all of the principle sights along the way.

Tip 3: Overboard Isnt Good. Over crowding a space with too much dcor or even too a multitude of plants is bad business. Instead, look for a more nature-based landscape component. Overcrowding plants can cause them to eventually die or take over the entire garden. To much dcor can make it look cluttered instead of lavish.

Tip 4: Use Lines. Lines from your home or your edging can help to create a lovely look within the garden. The roof line of the house can be a line that leads the eye to something excellent at the end. Use the lines that you have to create a flow to the eye.

Tip 5: Charm Means Theme. While you dont need a specific theme throughout your garden dcor, you should look towards the same or similar offerings. For example, if you place a white metal table under your trees to produce a restful place, make sure that the chairs that go with it match it. Add a white picket fence or other matching pieces to tie certain areas of the garden together as well.

Tip 6: Uphold it. a large amount of of the aspects within a garden are going to need some upkeep. If you pull your weeds, dont let this be overshadowed by the fact that you havent washed that white possessions in a year. Keep up on broken or misplaced items as well. Within the duration of harsh winter months, make sure to put as much as possible in storage that can be broken.

Tip 7: Garden dcor is not done without the look for lovely patio items. Allow it to mesh with the settings that you have created too. For example, in a woodsy area, look towards an organic, lovely product such as teak to keep it looking as if it belongs there.

The aforementioned points can help to contribute to a lovely and fashionable garden dcor that is everlasting, easy to manage and a welcoming place to call your own.

How to Build a DRONE

English: AR Drone part
Building your very own drone has never been easier as a result of the technology that is available nowadays. Drones used to be something that you would only ever hear about on the news or something that you would read about but not now. Now, we can purchase our very own drone and even a step further, we can make our own.

The first step to building your own drone is to decide on what design you wish to emulate, this will in turn decided the parts that you will need. Do you want speed? If so, you need to build a fixed-wing drone. However, if you wanted precision then a multi-rotor drone is what you require. If you choose to build a multi-rotor, your options then increase again as there is many different shapes and designs to choose from. You can decide to have an ‘x’ shape, a ‘+’ shape or even a ‘y’ shape with two propellers on each arm.

The next step is to choose the base of your drone. Many years ago, sensors were not quick enough to react to the push of a button but with the advancements of technology, there is now many to choose from. Many different manufacturers offer a central, focal point to your drone that specialise in navigation as well as altitude (through the pressure sensors). You need to choose a system to your drone that best represents what you are trying to achieve, whether it is stability whilst in flight or speed. There will be a circuit board in this device that will react to your hand-held device with which you wish to fly the drone with. If you are willing to invest the money, you will also find main frames that will allow you to pivot the camera (once installed) up and down as well as send the video down to a device on the ground via Wi-Fi or any other internet connection. As previously mentioned, if you wanted a camera on the drone, this will also need to be integrated into the system.

So now you have the heart of your drone, you have the electronics, the sensors, the camera and all the wires that are going to make this thing work but now you need to create a frame. You need to choose a material that will be resistant to damage but also hides away the main system; you want to keep all the wiring hidden from view. Carbon fibre is one of the most popular materials for drones as it is light yet extremely strong. It is also great for reducing the vibrations which will improve your drone’s ability to remain steady whilst in the air.

The final step is to attach the arms of your drone that hold the propellers. Depending on your design, it may be easier to add the arms before the body; you may also want to improve the aesthetics of your drone as well as efficiency by adding foldable arms for easier storage and mobility.

All that’s left to do now is to make sure that everything is complete. Ensure that the main system is completely wired and that the sensors will react to your remote. Ensure that your drone will actually work and is a reasonable design to stay up in the air. Ensure that your camera is linked up to a device on the ground. Once all this has been checked, it’s time to give your drone its maiden test flight!

BLACK TEA - when Are The Best Pluckings?

Black tea has become a worldwide phenomenon.  In cafes and coffeehouses, teahouses and trendy bistros, black tea has become a favorite beverage of tea drinkers around the globe.  The uniqueness of black tea lies in the processing—a procedure that helps to give the beverage its magnificent flavor and consistency.

Black tea, like green tea and specialty white tea, is derived from the Camellia Sinensis plant.  The primary difference between black tea and green tea lies in its fermentation.  Through the fermentation procedure, tea leaves take on a red color, then turn black after they have been dried.  In sharp contrast, green tea does not undergo fermentation, but instead is heat-treated, enabling it to maintain its distinctive green coloring.

At this point, it’s unclear why fermentation was begun.  Perhaps it was created in order to preserve tea for substantial lengths of time.  In any case, fermentation helps to give black tea its unique taste.  Because of the variety of ways you can serve black tea, it is often highly favored over other forms of tea.

Black teas are generally classified according to their grading.  For instance, Pekoe is a black tea that is derived from medium plucking of the second leaf of the tea bush.  The term “Pekoe” comes from the Chinese word meaning “white hair.”  The terminology refers to early pluckings, which evidence traces of white down.   Meanwhile, Broken Orange Pekoe is a smaller leaf tea that has broken segments but a number of tips.  In contrast, Broken Pekoe consists of broken portions of a coarse leaf sans tips.

Fannings consist of small grainy leaf particles which have been taken out of higher grade teas.    In contrast, Flowery Orange Pekoe may consist of a whole leaf or broken leaf with a great deal of tip, causing it to have a particularly fine quality.  Meanwhile, Flowery Pekoe is a black tea with a whole leaf that has been rolled lengthwise, while Orange Pekoe has a leaf ranging in size from eight to 15 millimeters with only a few tips.

The term “dust” refers to the smallest particle leaf size which is customarily utilized for tea bag teas.  This is because they tend to reach full flavor and strength quite quickly.   In order to be prepared for market, the graded tea leaf is placed into plywood chests which have been lined with aluminum paper.

Black tea may also be specially flavored or scented.  These teas are often produced from standard-grade teas that have been accented with flowers, flavored oils, or flavored crystals.   Interestingly enough, there can be incredible differences in teas according to the quality and the flavoring.  Typically, teas that are derived from natural flavoring techniques create the most flavorful teas.  some teas are so aromatic that they are reminiscent of perfume.

While the timing of pluckings can make a difference in terms of a tea’s consistency, it is the region in which it is harvested that often makes the biggest impact.  For instance, Assam tea is grown in a region in northern India and is known for its full-bodied strength.  Darjeeling, in northeast India, produces what’s often known as the champagne of teas.  These teas are legendary for their scent and light flavoring.

Darjeeling tea can actually come in a variety of flavors, including flowery and nutty.   Meanwhile, Keemum from China and Taiwan is frequently called the burgundy of teas, thanks to its sweet, rich, fruity flavor.

Lapsang Souchong, also from China and Taiwan, is known for its smokiness—a smokiness which comes from drying the tea leaves over a fire.  It is often referred to as an evening tea because it tends to be low in caffeine.  Meanwhile, Yunnan, derived from China’s Yunnan province, is full-bodied and slightly peppery in nature.

You may be curious about the differences between black tea and green tea.  Both types of tea can have significant therapeutic benefits, but green tea is the older of the two and tends to have less caffeine.  As a result, green tea might be considered generally more soothing than black tea, although there are varieties of black tea that are known for calming nerves.

Pluckings are only part of the story, when it comes to evaluating the merits of tea.  However, early pluckings can be indicative of a superior variety.  The more you drink black tea, the more you’ll come to appreciate its unique qualities.  It is a beverage that can really grow on you and, with so many varieties to choose from, you may find that you’ll never get bored with it.

A growing body of research indicating its health benefits is also a key selling point.   As a result, chances are good that black tea will continue to grow in popularity in the years ahead in localities around the globe.
